ScratchSleeves add an extra layer of clothing, so it’s important to adjust your baby’s other clothing so that they don’t get too hot. Our smaller sized ScratchSleeves (up to 9 months) have cut away shoulders to reduce the risk of overheating but you do need to remain vigilant.

Feel your baby’s tummy or the back of their neck, if the skin is hot or sweaty, remove one or more layers of clothing. Find our handy temperature guide here.

Orders placed before 3pm weekdays are shipped on the same day. We also ship orders received before 11pm on Saturday on the same day. We use the Tracked 24 service for UK orders and Tracked AirMail for overseas orders. We hold stock of our popular sizes and designs in the USA which is used to fulfill local orders.

We are always happy to refund or exchange unwanted items in a resaleable condition. Just drop us a line or give us a call to organise. Our phone lines are open from 11am to 4pm (UK time) weekdays. In most cases, we are able to cover the cost of return postage.

ScratchSleeves are made of 100% knitted cotton double jersey that is stretchy, light and comfortable. The mitts are 100% natural silk. Our materials are tested for surface irritants (Oeko-tex 100) and, as little ones are likely to chew on their mitts, we also test for heavy metals. We don’t use any stretch fibres as these can irritate the skin and can be damaged by some eczema creams. This means that our products will stretch with wear, but should shrink back to the original size after washing. Please note that as these are natural fibres we do expect around 4% shrinkage in the first few washes and this is factored into our sizing. More here.

Our products are machine washable at 40°C using a non-biological, wool safe washing powder.  If your washing machine tends to tangle clothes during the wash cycle, we suggest putting your ScratchSleeves in a laundry bag or pillow case to minimise stretching. This is particularly important in North America where the washing machine drums are much larger than those in Europe. We advise against using biological detergents and eco-washing balls as these will degrade the silk mitts. More here.

The mitts of ScratchSleeves are designed to be large enough for children to be able to use their hands naturally, without being so large or bulky that the mitts themselves get in the way. With a bit of practice most children will be able to build Duplo towers, turn the pages of a book and manipulate dummies and toys while wearing them.

To be effective, your child’s hands should sit within the silk mitts so it’s important to get the correct size. We advise purchasing on the basis of wingspan rather than their age. With your child’s arm stretched out to the side, measure from the centre of their back to the tips of their fingers. Double this measurement to calculate the wingspan then use the size chart to find your child’s size. Our sizing tends to run large so we suggest refraining from buying a larger size even if your child’s wingspan is close to the top of the size range.
